Our Vision & Ethos
As an independent specialist school for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, we are committed to providing a nurturing, trauma-informed and therapeutic learning environment where young people can heal, grow and achieve. We welcome every young person and provide them with the opportunity to flourish.
We recognise that many of our pupils have experienced adversity, disruption, loss, or trauma that may affect their emotional wellbeing, relationships and engagement in education. Therefore, we seek to understand the story behind the behaviour, creating a culture of curiosity, empathy and unconditional positive regard. Rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?", we ask, "What has happened to you, and how can we support you?"
Roots to Wings: At Emerge School, our Roots to Wings model underpins our support for young carers. We prioritise safe, trusting relationships, seek to understand the needs behind behaviour, and provide flexible, therapeutic support that builds emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, and independence, ensuring every pupil can flourish.
At the heart of our practice are strong, trusting relationships. We believe that positive relationships are the foundation for both learning and emotional recovery. Through a therapeutic approach, we support pupils to develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, resilience and confidence, enabling them to overcome barriers and realise their potential.
